Yam is a popular tuber used in making variety of dishes especially in AVIYAL which is a famous side dish recipe for Sadya.A simple and delicious yam fry that is perfect for any Indian meals.The yam is sliced, semi cooked,marinated with aromatic spices and roasted in low flame using a tawa until crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.Do not use fresh yam from the market,store them at least for a week before using. Always cook them in low flame to avoid itchiness or any kind of allergy.This Yam fry recipe goes well with sambar,rasam or just plain curd rice.Kids love to have them and would definitely ask you to prepare this often.As they are shallow fried you need not use lot of oil ,frying in low flame makes it more crispy and uniformly cooked inside.Enjoy your lunch with these crispy yam fries.
PREPARATION TIME : 10 MINS
MARINATING TIME : 30 MINS
COOKING TIME 20 MINS
INGREDIENTS
200 g yam / senai kilangu
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
3/4 coriander powder
1/2 cumin powder
Salt to taste
Water as required
Oil for shallow frying
METHOD
Peel the skin, wash and cut the yam into slices.
Semi cook the yam slices with turmeric powder for 8 mins in medium flame.
Drain the water completely and let it cool before marinating.
Make a paste by mixing chili powder,cumin powder,coriander powder,salt with water.Marinate the yam slices in this paste.
Heat oil in a tawa,add the marinated yam slices and cook on both sides in low flame until crisp and golden.
Crispy yam fries are ready to serve.
TAKE CARE TIPS
Do not get tempted to increase the flame to yield crispy fries.
Use a week old yam to avoid any kind of allergy reactions.
