Bread Gulab Jamun recipe

Looking for a classic dessert recipe with leftover bread slices ?Leftovers can always be converted into yummy makeovers.One such easy recipe is Bread Gulab Jamun where left over bread is converted into yummy dessert.It is prepared by mixing bread slices with milk,milk powder then fried in ghee and soaked in sugar syrup before serving.
Regular sweet white bread from the bakery makes a good bread gulab jamun,avoid using sour dough loaves,wheat bread and savoury bread as they are not suited for bread jamuns.
I love this recipe for it could be made ahead of time for a gathering and also can be made in jiffy for sudden guests. Bread Jamuns are more delicious when served warm with some vanilla ice cream. Once you start making this yummy sweet at home I bet you would reserve bread slices every time you buy a loaf.

INGREDIENTS

6 bread slices

3 tsp milk powder

4-6 tsp thick milk or as needed

GHEE for frying

FOR SUGAR SYRUP

1 & 1/4 cup sugar

1 cup water

3 cardamom

Few saffron strands

METHOD

PREPARATION OF SUGAR SYRUP

Prepare the sugar syrup by adding sugar,water,saffron and cardamoms.Let it boil until they become thick in medium flame.This might take 10-15 mins.

Cut the brown edges of the bread and cut them to small pieces.

Crumble them using your blender or your hands.Add milk powder,milk and knead it to soft dough.

Make small balls out of the dough.

Heat ghee in a kadai or pan,add 5-6 jamuns one by one.Fry until they turn golden brown in low flame.Do not get tempted to increase the flame.Transfer the jamuns directly from the pan into the sugar syrup.the syrup should be warm and not hot.Let the jamuns stay in the syrup for 30 – 40 mins.

Soft,yummy Bread Gulab Jamuns are ready to serve.Serve them warm or chilled.

TAKE CARE TIPS

Do not knead the dough for a long time as it makes the jamuns hard.

Fry the bread gulab jamuns in ghee,avoid using oil for frying.

Do not increase the flame while frying the jamuns.
