I love to have Keerai/Greens the whole day for all three meals,they are my favorites.Keerai is a easy and simple to cook food.They are highly nutritious and delicious to taste. Keerai kootu can be prepared with any greens of our choice.All kootu varities are basically prepared with dhall and coconut which makes them more nutritious to consume.I have made this keerai kootu with Sirukeerai today and goes well with sambar,rasam and steamed rice.Lets move on to this healthy recipe.

INGREDIENTS

1 bunch greens(200 g)

1 onion (chopped)

2 dried red chillies

3 clove of garlic (chopped)

1/2 cup coconut milk

2 tbsp cooked toor dhal

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tsp urad dhal

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp sambar powder

1 tbsp oil

Salt to taste

Water as required

PREPARTION TIME: 10 MINS
COOKING TIME: 25 MINS

METHOD

Discard the root parts and wash the greens well in water before chopping them.Chop them with the stem parts and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan,add the mustard seeds and urad dhall.When it splutters add the garlic and onion,saute for 2 mins on medium flame. Now add the chopped greens and saute for 3 mins on medium flame.Do not let it get burnt.

Add the cooked dhall,coconut milk and let it boil.

When it boils add turmeric powder,sambar powder,salt and mix them well.Let it cook on low flame for 10- 12 mins with a closed lid.The keerai is completely cooked now.

Serve the Keerai kootu with steamed rice,sambar and rasam.

TAKE CARE TIPS

Always wash the greens before chopping to preserve the nutrients.

You can use a tbsp of ground grated coconut also instead of coconut milk.

You can use green chillies instead of red chillies. Add either moong dhal or toor dhal.
